Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between ScanNCut and Cricut?

ScanNCut has a built-in scanner for cutting physical artwork directly without a computer. Cricut requires Design Space software and cannot scan. ScanNCut uses USB/cloud; Cricut uses Bluetooth/cloud.

Can I use ScanNCut without a computer?

Yes. Built-in scanner, 600+ built-in designs, and touchscreen interface allow fully offline operation. USB stick imports SVG files. CanvasWorkspace app is optional for cloud sync.

Why won't my SVG file import?

ScanNCut only reads basic SVG paths. Export with outlines (not text objects), flatten groups, remove gradients/filters, and save as 'SVG 1.1' not 'SVG Tiny'.

How does Print-Then-Cut registration work?

CanvasWorkspace adds three black rectangle marks to your printout. After printing, place the sheet on the mat and scan. The scanner detects marks and aligns cuts to printed artwork automatically.

What blade depth should I use?

Cardstock: 1-2. Vinyl: 1 (kiss-cut). Fabric with backing: 3-4. Foam/magnetic sheets: 4-5. Run a test cut and check if material cuts cleanly without cutting through the mat.

Can ScanNCut cut fabric without backing?

No. Fabric requires iron-on stabilizer or temporary spray adhesive to hold it flat on the mat. Without backing, fabric shifts during cutting and produces jagged edges.
